The Island of Gran Canaria is renown for its warm, pleasant climate.  Due to its mountainous terrain and southern location, many microclimates however, do exist.

The southeast coast, for example, typically warm and dry.

The west coast of the island receives much more precipitation.  The vegetation is consequently lush and tropical.

At higher elevations (i.e. the summit of the volcano), temperatures can be quite cool.
